Frequently Asked Questions

Which type of apple should I use?

While most apples will do the trick, I personally recommend using a firmer apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. They hold up well during baking and offer a delightful balance of sweetness and tartness.

How do I store leftovers?

Wrap the bread in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. It’ll keep fresh at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the fridge for up to a week. Remember, the icing may soften a bit if stored in a warm environment.

I don’t have sour cream; can I use something else for the icing?

Absolutely. If you don’t have sour cream on hand, you can use plain Greek yogurt. It’ll offer a similar tangy profile to your icing.

Can I add nuts or other mix-ins?

Feel free to get creative! Walnuts or pecans can add a lovely crunch to the bread. Just ensure you fold them in gently to maintain the bread’s soft texture.

My icing looks too runny/thick. What did I do wrong?

No worries, this happens to the best of us! If your icing is too runny, add a tad more powdered sugar to thicken it up. If it’s too thick, a little splash of milk or cream should do the trick.

How can I tell if the bread is fully baked?

The trusty toothpick test never fails. Insert a toothpick or skewer into the center of the loaf. If it comes out clean or with just a few crumbs (no wet batter), you’re good to go!
